Job Description: Bulkmatic is hiring a Regional Safety Trainer in the Chicago area.

This role will provide the leading face, voice, and demonstrated example of safety. Through positive interactions that are consistent with the organizational expectations, solidify the safety culture in all locations. Working closely with operations, this role will execute daily tasks that support the development of at-risk drivers. This role will actively lead the investigation of all safety related events. Working with and supporting local operational leadership, this role will follow up on at-risk drivers identified through various programs designed to identify such drivers. This role will assist, as directed, the Director of Safety in the overall delivery and execution of the organizations' safety/compliance policies and practices. This will include assigned and on-going tasks and projects. It is expected that this role will actively monitor various reports and data feeds to identify at-risk drivers and work with operations teams to reduce or eliminate risk. It is also expected that this role will engage in regular direct observations of field operators to ensure that corporate expectations are being met when executing daily tasks. Positive coaching will be expected, in all cases, when a risk has been identified. This role will be responsible for periodic evaluations and/or audits of terminal locations as defined by organizational standards.

This role will report to the Director of Safety.

Job Requirements:
  1. Demonstrate a positive safety culture by providing coaching and support to drivers, trainers, and operational leadership teams.
  2. Continuously monitor and manage fleet performance related to frequency of crashes, injuries, compliance, and incidental damages.
  3. Support the organization's Fleet Safety and Compliance programs and initiatives with a HANDS-ON people based safety approach and mindset.
  4. Collaborate and coordinate closely with corporate leadership to identify, develop, implement, and execute safety, risk, and DOT compliance policies and practices.
  5. Proactively identify drivers that are demonstrating at-risk behaviors. Partner with field leadership to address and eliminate at-risk behaviors through collaborative corrective action and follow up plans.
  6. Conduct, document, and report as directed periodic evaluations of terminal site locations.
  7. Ensure compliance with all FMCSA / DOT regulations within assigned region.
  8. Lead and manage periodic safety meetings in cooperation with terminal and regional leaders.
  9. Monitor video event recorder platform and positively coach events and local field leadership as needed and consistent with organizational standards and expectations.
  10. Periodically assist with and/or lead weekly BU Orientation.
  11. Monitor CSA performance to ensure that data is correct.
  12. Oversee, and execute, the process to follow up on roadside inspections. Periodically audit records to verify accurate completion and audit-ready files in all BASIC categories.
  13. Participate in identified state associations to present professional and positive image of organization, monitor "best practice" ideas, develop professional network, and provide avenues for outside recognition of corporate successes.
  14. Actively participate in the "Event Reporting Process" defined by leadership. Collaborate with Operational Leadership to report, investigate, and follow up on all reported events. These are to include reports of any accident, incident, injury, spill, or contamination, and theft. Ensure proper tools are available for key team members and follow up actions are taken timely and consistently. Oversee process to ensure actions are consistent with policy/program. Coach for improvement.
  15. Monitor, manage, and communicate disaster prevention plans to include preventive actions, preparations for, and response to weather emergencies, fires, hurricanes, floods, and pandemic. Ensure that preparations and actions are consistent with organizational expectations.
  16. Educate and coach the competency of managers (across the organization) in safety management practices, protocols, and procedures to support corporate culture, visibility, and accountability.
  17. Support 24/7 coverage of after-hours emergency call-in lines for reporting of serious accident and injuries.
  18. Consistent travel to field locations to ensure physical engagement at each location. This position requires 50%- 75% travel.
Qualification and Requirements:
  • Knowledge and Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of FMCSA / DOT regulations
    • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations
    • Demonstrated experience evaluating data to develop strategic goals, and metrics for measuring success.
    • Proactive thinker with demonstrated success independently identifying, investigating, and solutioning identified opportunities.,
    • Expert knowledge of defensive driving standards
    • Must be able to comprehend and comply with policies and instructions.
    • Must have excellent computer and typing skills, specifically Micorsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Must be motivated and able to work independently to complete assignments as scheduled and assigned.
    • Class A CDL Preferred
  • Physical Requirements[1]:
    • Must be able to wear and use required safety equipment.
    • May be required to perform physical work on occasion and/or for extended periods of time, including: walking/standing, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, climbing, etc.
    • Must have manual dexterity to operate any controls and or equipment.
    • May be required to climb trailers if necessary and be comfortable with heights.
    • Must be able to perform required tasks outside in various weather conditions.
