Job Description: The Liability Claims Manager will be responsible for the mitigation of all claims liability, corporate visibility to status of involved parties, equipment, property, and cargo. This role will also be the primary communication link to the insurance providers, TPAs, brokers, and related parties. This role will report to the Director of Safety.

As the Liability Claims Manager you are responsible for cross-departmental collaboration. This position:
  • Will work closely with the maintenance team to control and track accident related costs.
  • Will maintain consistent and timely dialogue with injured employees while under doctor's care.
  • Will immediately transfer injured/restricted employees into transitional roles.
  • Will accurately record events consistent with Bulkmatic instructions and previous standards.
  • Will work closely with the finance team to ensure that accident related expenses and reserves are accurately tracked and updated.
  • Will work closely with operations and others to investigate and respond to spills, contaminations, theft, and other similar events in a timely, positive, and detailed manner.
  • Will assist the safety team to ensure that the proper processes are being followed in the reporting and follow up of a related event.
  • Will support the Compliance and Driver Processing roles as time allows and as assigned.

Job Requirements: Primary Job Duties and Expectations:[1]:
  1. Receive, record, and enter event reports in a timely manner.
  2. Oversee administration and management of claims assigned to insurance adjusters.
  3. Oversee and manage to closure, claims handled internally.
  4. Coordinate with operational leadership to investigate and follow up on reported spills, contaminations, thefts, and other events.
  5. Contact employees deemed to be in a Work Comp status at least weekly.
  6. Provide weekly updates on status, recovery projections, care plans, and transitional placements.
  7. Oversee and coordinate the subrogation process with the finance team.
  8. Process claims by contacting policy holders and claimants to gather and document information as needed.
  9. Active role in supporting and execution of escalated claims response to include 24/7 engagement as needed to respond to critical and serious reported events.
  10. Work with claimants to control costs and close claims as quickly and as fairly as is possible.
  11. Oversee TPA administration and management of workers' compensation claims
  12. Coordinate with local and operational management to progressively develop and execute the company transitional duty program.
  13. Through communication, follow up, and relationship building, work with local medical providers to ensure high quality care provided to injured employees.
  14. Ensure that records and information has been captured and recorded to meet the organizational expectations and within the defined timelines.
  15. Communicate and collaborate with the maintenance department to determine reserves, track status of equipment, and accurately report accident related costs.
  16. Communicate timely and accurately with the finance team to accurately reflect costs and reserves as claims are processed and mature.
  17. Secure police reports in the event crash in which a report was created.
  18. Determine and communicate the current location, status, and condition of any equipment, cargo, or driver in the event a serious crash.
  19. Ensure that the appropriate insurance provider has been notified of any crashes that will involve their respective policy.
  20. Identify and communicate any substantial increase in an open reserve.
  21. Lead claims calls with managers, site teams, and counsel as needed to provide meaningful direction and leadership on non-litigated and litigated claims.
  22. Provide regular reports to leadership regarding claim volumes, reserves, types, and anticipated outcomes.
  23. Assist with data accumulation for annual insurance underwriting.
  24. Identify and communicate any trends by type, location, or other common variable to leadership.
  25. Working with senior leadership, coordinate with any legal entity, consistent with organization's expectations, as needed.
  26. Support the actions of the Compliance and Driver Processing roles when time is available. In some cases, specific tasks will be assigned on an on-going basis.
  27. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements[2]:
  • Must be able to wear and use required safety equipment.
  • May be required to perform physical work on occasion and/or for extended periods of time, including: walking/standing, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, climbing, etc.
  • Must have manual dexterity to operate any controls and or equipment.
  • May be required to climb trailers if necessary and be comfortable with heights.
  • Must be able to perform required tasks outside in various weather conditions.

  • Demonstrated strong communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be extremely organized with high level of attention to detail.
  • Proactive thinker with demonstrated success independently identifying, investigating, and finding solutions to identified opportunities.
  • Must be able to comprehend and comply with policies and instructions.
  • Must have excellent computer and typing skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language and communicate effectively with other employees and customers both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
  • Must hold a valid driver's license
  • Must be motivated and able to work independently to complete assignments as scheduled and assigned.

Qualification and Requirements:
Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years claims management experience
  • Strong knowledge of industry practices
  • General understanding of fleet insurance programs preferred
